Velocitize Talks: Kim Christfort of Deloitte Greenhouse on Business Chemistry and Work Environments

Deloitte Greenhouses are cutting-edge physical spaces located around the world designed to help clients tackle their complex problems. The Deloitte Greenhouse Experience Group helps executives tackle tough business challenges through immersive, facilitated Lab experiences and spaces designed to promote exploration and problem solving away from business as usual.

In this episode of Velocitize Talks, we sit down with Kim Christfort, National Managing Director at Deloitte Greenhouse, to discuss business chemistry types, work environments and what behavior to expect from Gen Z at work.

“C-suite executives are more likely to have something in common with someone who shares their behavioral style than someone of the same gender.”

A Viewing Guide

Getting to Breakthrough (0:33)

Deloitte Greenhouse’s strategy involves understanding the human dynamics within a team and using immersive experiences to improve the way teams work together. This, in turn, helps teams overcome their technical challenges. To do that, they use their tool Business Chemistry, a tool that draws upon the latest analytics technologies to reveal four scientifically based patterns of behavior.

Hiring biases are not uncommon and are frequently subconscious. How do you become aware of that bias, recognize differences, and use that information to get the best out of every team member?

Work Environment and Cognitive Styles (4:56)

Whether it’s enclosed cubicles or an open floor plan, our workspaces are frequently one-size-fits-all. How are behavioral patterns related to our preference for workspaces? How do you maximize productivity and create a preferred space for everyone?

Hiring for “Fit” (6:58)

Hiring for “fit” is a phrase we’ve all heard. However, it often perpetuates biases and the notion that those we hire resemble ourselves. Instead, Christfort says, we should look for complementary skills. How do you measure business chemistry and apply it to our hiring practices and work environments? What’s the best way to achieve balance among the different behavioral types?

Gen Z and the Workplace (12:50)

Gen Z is now entering the workplace. Behavioral patterns are commonly associated with particular generations but how will that endure over time? What Gen Z behavioral tendencies are intrinsic versus enduring? As they enter the workforce, much Gen Z will be reporting to their millennial superiors. What’s the best way to integrate a new generation into a work environment?
