Velocitize Talks: Tim Walmsley of BenchOn on Talent and Transformation

“Human beings always go to their default setting. We need to break them out of their default settings.”

The transformation of business demands a transformation in how businesses approach talent and work, said Tim Walmsley, CEO and founder of Australian talent-matching platform BenchOn. Work is changing so people can tailor work to their requirements, and businesses can also have the flexibility to staff according to their needs, Walmsley told Velocitize Talks.

This trend is becoming more marked as younger workers move up in business and lead startups. “They need to be mentored in what to expect,” he said.

The biggest hurdle to transformation in many businesses is simply resistance to change, said Walmsley. In the middle of business transformation, purpose remains a key element, and it is particularly true of Millennials today. “If you don’t have a greater impact, you’re missing on a large part of the market,” he said.

As a business-to-business marketer, BenchOn tries to build a community of businesses to encourage the enterprises it works with to collaborate. “A business is run by people, so if you tap into those people and connect those people together, you’ll have better success.”
