Content has never been more important. Whether it’s video, written, or audio, content should be central to your marketing strategy. Podcasts are a great alternative type of content that can help you reach a new audience.

Producer of “The Growth Show,” David Gerhardt, writes about the importance of a podcast option in your business in his beginner’s guide. Here’s how to make a killer podcast and make your audience listen.

Begin with a SoundCloud account — it’s free and easy to use.

A podcast uses a common RSS feed that allows someone to subscribe to your blog and receive new episodes.

You can use almost any recording software to get the job done.

There are several different types of software to help you get the job done. GarageBand is a great option on Macs and Audacity for PCs.

Make sure to prep for your podcast.

Gerhardt suggests, “Think about what you want the finished product to be like and then work backwards.” This means that you should carefully craft your talking points and questions prior to the podcast. This will help for a seamless experience, which is not only better for listeners but also for the person who is on your podcast.

With podcasts, content is still king.

The ultimate way to produce a great podcast is having great content. Make a podcast that people love and gives them easy listening that they will keep coming back to. Moreover, in order for your podcast to sound more professional, you can record a standard intro to lead into your show.

Market your podcast like a product.

Figure out the SEO, have a website for the product, write about the podcast on your blog, send out an email, and promote the podcast on social media.
