Velocitize Talks: Holly Tattersall on Entrepreneurship and Talent

There are a lot of responsibilities being attached to influencers as role models in the community.

Women in Digital began in 2014 as an international organization offering events, mentoring and corporate services for organizations that value diversity and inclusion in Digital.  In 2018, Women in Digital launched the Women in Digital Awards; this event recognizes incredible women, companies, disruptors, and advocates within the Digital and IT industries. They also created the Women in Digital 2020 pledge with the mission of creating greater gender diversity in the technology industry across Australia.

In this episode of Velocitize Talks, we sit down with Holly Tattersall, Founder and CEO of Women in Digital & Digital Talent Co., to talk about succeeding as an entreprenuer, making the right hiring decisions, and the evolving role of influencers.

Embarking on Entrepreneurship (1:43)

Entrepreneurship is a commitment. Not only will you need to invest resources into your goals, but you’ll also need to invest a lot of time as well. Bridging the line between work and life and incorporating your passion into your mission can help you prioritize and avoid burnout.

New Strategies for Hiring and Retaining Talent (3:39)

Great talent is in short supply. Where do you find that next great hire? Companies are working hard to attract the right talent for in-demand roles like Data Scientist, SEO Expert, etc. However, to avoid being pigeon-holed, new hires are looking for new opportunities after a couple of years. What are the best ways to provide professional development and retain new hires?

Making the Decision to Hire from Within or Find New Talent (7:40)

Deciding whether to fill hire from within your organization or find new talent is largely circumstantial. Most companies in digital will opt to do both. However, merging the old and the new should be strategic; companies that fail to successfully integrate risk a hit to their culture.

Skills and Trends Driving Job Growth (8:58)

Innovation is driving job growth for companies in the digital space. Companies crave employees who bring new service offerings for their clients. For software development, that means developers with in-demand skills like Python, Java and Node.js are seen as skills of the future. The popularization of more futuristic technologies, like blockchain and AI, will result in the demand for new skills.

The Maturation of Digital and Social Influencers (10:06)

The next generation of social and digital influencers will be more aware of their responsibility and influence. How will they change their strategy while still maintaining an income?
