The EIO recently surveyed 499 CMOs and senior marketing executives worldwide about their opinion on the future of marketing.

A recent report by Marketo looks closely at the results, which indicate that by the year 2020, marketing will be geared more toward customer experience and the future role of the CMO.

CMOs will have bigger part in customer experience.

Eighty-six percent of CMOs and senior marketing execs say they will dominate the end-to-end customer experience by 2020.

Personalized customer experience is essential.

Of those surveyed, marketers agree that the ability to personalize customer experiences will become crucial in future marketing departments.

Social media will become even more important.

Sixty-three percent of marketers said that social media will be the main place customers see their advertising in 2020.

Focus on customer loyalty.

The top strategic programs to define the marketing department in 2020 are focusing on customer loyalty, relationships, customer acquisition, and emerging technologies.

Marketing departments will have more influence in the future.

Ninety percent of those surveyed think marketing departments will exercise significant influence on business strategy and 80 percent believe marketers will have the same influence over technology by 2020.
