The whole of humanity can be connected in almost real-time so what do we do with that? For the first time we have to ask ourselves, what do we want to achieve?

David Lockie is Founder & CEO of Pragmatic, a small virtual web agency offering digital strategy, branding and design through WordPress and open-source software. He’s also Founder of Dcent.tech, a new brand working with companies and nonprofits using blockchain technology.

In this episode of Velocitize Talks, Lockie shares his insights on the future of bots, AI, personalization and blockchain.

Headless WordPress (3:58)

The advantage of WordPress is the flexibility and ease of manipulating the end-to-end website product set of plugins designed to have an impact on the front end and the back end.

BeachBody, TechCrunch, Guggenheim and Campbell’s are all examples of companies using headless WordPress. Here are Awwwards’s featured examples built with React.

What RFPs are looking like (5:33)

Organizations have designed themselves to be digitally capable so they’re going through a digital transformation process or they’re on the other side.

Businesses want to ensure they have a compelling website to send people to. Over 64% of marketers actively invest in search engine optimization (SEO), according to HubSpot. Impact came up with a list of their 11 best examples of lead gen website designs.

AI in digital (7:13)

We think about a digitally capable organization as having two poles: intelligence at one end and experience at the other end.

There are a number of AI tools that can help with content marketing strategy and creation. The Content Marketing Institute sees clear benefits to leveraging AI in terms of improving the customer journey, what resonates and readability.

AI and Personalization (8:50)

When it comes to the experiences themselves, we’re starting to see more AI-powered personalization and segmentation.

According to the WP Engine 2019 report on Gen Z, personalization is incredibly important to Gen Zers. In fact, 44% of them would stop visiting a website if it didn’t anticipate what they needed, liked, or wanted.

Find your voice (10:14)

Are we presenting voice content in a way that makes it easy for machine intelligence to understand, interpret it, and retrieve it?

According to a HubSpot article, some 65% of 25- to 49-year-olds speak to their voice-enabled devices at least once a day. Voice is expected to be a $40 billion channel by 2022.

Next Gen Bots (10:53)

I don’t think we’ve even scratched the surface of what we’re going to see from bots.

Chatbots are expected to save businesses $8 billion per year by 2022 according to Deloitte. Sprout Social offers some effective examples of chatbot marketing.

Blockchain and the future of digital experience (11:48)

I think it’s going to blow our minds what happens over the next 5 or 10 years in that real-time creation consumption paradigm.
