Digital transformation is a tough process, but it is essential to keep up with the evolving environment, said Tansel Adacan, global systems director at Landor.
‘”We need to embrace tech,” he said. “If we don’t, there is a good chance the business could die.”
Landor learned a number of lessons about digital transformation while going through its own process a few years ago, he told Velocitize Talks. “First and foremost, you absolutely have to have your leadership on board,” he said. The organization needs strategic focus and clear metrics to track its progress.
Ironically, technological change involves a great deal of managing people and culture. “If you’re not working together to achieve these objectives, it’s not going to work,” he said.
“There’s a lot of noise about innovation,” said Adacan, who’s managed innovation labs at his previous jobs. But in some cases, innovation has come from pure passion among the people involved, not technology alone, he said.
New technologies will be game-changers in digital experiences, especially artificial intelligence, but APIs and other open tools will help bring together data from different systems and make better decisions. “We will see more APIs being leveraged in the marketplace,” he said. “It just makes it a lot easier.”
