Welcome to Velocitize Talks Encore, a new series where we catch up with some of our favorite industry leaders and all-around awesome people who have appeared on Velocitize Talks. In this interview we speak with Ana Hoyos, Area Director for Southeastern U.S. and Latin America at Meltwater.

Hoyos appeared on Velocitize Talks in July of 2018. Watch the full episode here.

In just one word, how would you describe the state of digital marketing today?

Competitive.

How do you see AI evolving in the digital era?

I see AI as a key factor that can be leveraged to gather actionable insights from mountains of digital data from any company, competitor and/or industry. AI is evolving in a way that can process that data to guide decision-making processes.

What do you consider the most exciting developments in “outside insight” data today?

It will definitely be AI-powered insights for marketers working at a tactical and strategic C-suite level. These types of insights allow marketers to streamline their workflows, gain competitive insight, and inform their strategy.

Has the role of women in technology continued to improve?

“The role of women in technology keeps evolving, but it is something that needs to keep improving.”

We still have a long way to go. The idea is for women to keep supporting each other and recognize that there is enough sunshine for everybody. There is a phrase I once heard from Spanx CEO, Sara Blakely, and it’s “progress over perfection.” As long as we keep making progress, we will continue to see talented women join more C-level suites and own more companies.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

The best advice is to help each other out. Not only have I received it, but I have also implemented it. If I see talent and determination in another woman, I find a way to guide her to reach her goals. The times I have done this, I keep growing a chain of support that like a boomerang has also helped reach my goals.
